Detroit Diesel Engines
Detroit Diesel has been producing engines for more than 70 years. Detroit Diesel began operating as the GM Diesel Division in the 1930s, producing compact engines that were used in World War II. Starting in the 1950s, they began to produce heavy-duty diesel engines to serve the growing on-highway and off-highway commercial markets.
The GM Diesel Division was renamed Detroit Diesel in 1965. Its signature engine, the Series 60, was released in 1987 and set the standard for fuel-efficient, heavy-duty engines. The Series 60 engine from Detroit Diesel has remained among the most popular diesel engines ever since.
